As 2025 came to a close, the Camp Lewis property was formally turned over to New Jersey DEP. Its final disposition is still unknown - will the property be incorporated into Farny State Park or used for some other purpose? No one is coming forth with details.
In pursuit of the effort to keep Camp Lewis open, a group of former camp staff members have spent the last two years diligently working to find a solution. They have met with scouting administrators, state government personnel, elected officials, and members of Congress. Unfortunately, to date, there has been no success with keeping the camp operational. However, in January a new governor took office along with a new DEP commissioner, and correspondence has been sent to each requesting that they reconsider the previous administration's decision. We anxiously await a reply.
A special thank you to those involved in this endeavor - Dr. Gary Maita, Frank Antos, Tom Bogart, Brian Codd, Mike Hurley, Mike Janeczko, Paul Weeks, Mike Williams and Bob Grillo.

Today the Bayonne Scouting community is mourning the passing of the camp's most beloved staff member of all time, Rodney Townes.
We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones. He was a great man and an inspiration to us all.
